Grand Lodge Code Commission
Charter: The Code Commission
is charged with reviewing existing Masonic law to ensure that it remains clear and consistent, that it is
easy to read and that it makes sense.
Duties: It has the annual task to revisit and if necessary to initiate
suitable amendments of the Methodical Digest which eliminate conflicts among the various sections and parts, and
ambiguous language, improper phraseology, and/or misleading statements.
The Code Commission serves a similar function with
respect to all new laws or amendments to existing laws of the Grand Lodge. It reviews all accepted resolutions,
refers them to the appropriate Grand Lodge Committee, and puts them into proper form as necessary. It also
determines whether there are any potential conflicts with existing laws, and it independently offers such
codifying amendments as may be necessary to implement, if the proposed new law or amendment should be adopted.
Membership:
The Committee shall be composed of three (3) members assigned by the Grand Master of Masons in Virginia.
Committee Members:
Stephen Wade Law,
Chairman
James Dean Cole
Walter Scott Downs
