GRAND LODGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

In general, Virginia Freemasons are committed to high standards of excellence, and part of this commitment is carried out by The Scholarship Fund, Grand Lodge, A.F.& A.M., of Virginia. It operates exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is a Virginia Corporation licensed by the State Corporation Commission.

 

Its purpose is to provide scholarships, fellowships and other forms of financial assistance to deserving men and women from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Eligibility

Scholarship recipients are deserving men and women, residing in the Commonwealth of Virginia, who are selected on the following basis:

 

MERIT includes academic achievement, class rank, standardized test scores, participation in high school, church or synagogue activities, as well as the quality of application essays.

 

NEED is determined by the applicant's financial status. The financial evaluation will include a review of the family's adjusted gross income, checking and savings accounts, stocks and securities, equity in land and real estate holdings, etc. This evaluation helps to determine the applicant's ability to obtain assistance from financial institutions.

Deadline for returning completed applications is MARCH 1ST.

Award

The members of the Board of Directors review applications and award scholarships up to $1,000 each. These are renewable for four years depending upon the availability of funds and satisfactory academic performance and continuing need.

Financial Aid Form

The Financial Aid Form is required and should be forwarded to the Grand Lodge of Virginia as soon as possible. The Financial Aid Form may be obtained from the high school counselor or from the college or university, which the student expects to attend.

Notification Of Decision

All applicants who return and for whom all supporting documents are submitted will be notified of the Board's decision by mail.
